I HATE ESPN.
No....I watch it because it's the best.....But that's another issue. I'm not a hypocrite, just a victim of a monopoly.
As previously mentioned in this blog, I will occasionally attempt to expose the hypocrisy that is breeded by the ESPN network.
November 13, 2006: Ok...so Bobby Knight nudged a kid's chin. We all know about that story. In case you don't know, Bobby Knight, head coach of the Texas Tech men's basketball team aggressively knocked one of his player's chin because the kid was looking down and not at him. Really, nothing wrong with that. Everyone agrees.
ESPN keeps going on and on about how this is NOT an incident, etc., etc......but it's actually ESPN which IS the incident. Not Bobby Knight. The fact they keep reporting AND saying that this is a non-incident MAKES this whole thing an more of an, well....incident. Even ESPN.com polls show that 80% of those voting say that if this so-called "incident" involved any other coach, it would not be a big deal.
America doesn't care. Maybe because it's the "same ol' Bobby" that they are used to.......perhaps they believe that what he did was right. The point is that IT DOESN'T MATTER TO US!!
So, why do I have to see it constantly reported, constantly analyzed, constantly broken down on pretty much every ESPN show from Sportscenter to Mike & Mike? Hell, I bet they are making "instant classic" commercials for the game right now. Oh yea...did I mention that they run this across the bottom-line at :08, :15, :31, :40, :43, :44, :51 & :51.5?
Please ESPN, I'm begging you. SHUT. UP. You are constantly turning incidents which should be non-stories; stories that should be sacrificed in favor of more highlights. Is the "Leader In Sports" a victim of it's own success? That's what you claim to be, right? If so, you need to recognize that your over-reporting of miniscule events leads to the saturated coverage that you claim to despise.
