>> A Big-Ups to Sylvester Croom of Mississippi State University. The first black head coach in Southeastern Conference football history has been named coach of the year for the SEC. He’s done a great job in turning around a struggling Mississippi State program which was left on probation after the tumultuous Jackie Sherrill era. Here is a link to a cool collection of Croom photos through the years.
>> I often ask, what would life be like without cell phones? I mean, we couldn’t imagine living without them in this day and age. What on this level is next? YouTube. Without it, I would have never been able to witness Steve Kerr, Kenny Lofton, Tom Tolbert, Jud Buechler and Sean Elliott, from the 1988 Arizona Wildcats final four team, drop rhymes like crimes.
>> Great feature in Slam Magazine by Vincent Thomas, OJ Mayo: The Papoose of basketball?
Now Vincent’s first impressions of OJ Mayo are very similar to mine. But now, he is seemingly coming around after witnessing Mayo’s shutdown of Memphis’ Derrick Rose. I guess he does have a point…but maybe the kid just has pride, which certainly does not propel him to Kobe or MJ levels of a baller who can D. So yea, maybe OJ Mayo will learn how to take over in crunch time, maybe he will learn how to share the ball with his teammates. Lotta maybes….prove it to me.
>> The Pineapple Express….God’s vagina.
>> More diligent work by Jason Gurney of BallHype. He’s entered NBA player birthplace data for a single year for the past 7 decades. The progression of the NBA as a world sport has been amazing. Rumor has it that Jason’s next project is to plot the birthplace of every player who has every played in the NBA. Be sure and check out the DC/Bal-more representing in ’96-’97.
>> How to create the worst NBA player ever. Wonder where this cat was born?
>> The Gypsies are feuding…..Aaa-gin. This time, it’s in the OC. And get this, non-Gypsies are considered “impure”….I wonder what Borat would think of this…..
