Links That I Like, and You Should Too
| December 20, 2007 | 11:30 pm

I got fired for Chris CooleyChris Cooley‘s current fiancée (right) used to be a Redskins cheerleader, until she got fired for dating him. I’d say that it’s worked out well for the both of them.

I don’t like the Boston Red Sox, but I do like Jonathan Papelbon. Why? I went to college with him. Got some stories, ain’t telling them. Nice article on Papelbon in the Hattiesburg (Mississippi) American…..where we find out that his dog ate the ball from the final out in the Red Sox ’07 World Series win. Wild and crazy guy? Yes. Down to earth? Definitely.

Shawshank Redemption is one of my favorite movies….and what do ya know, here’s a real-life escape story similar to the movie. Either you can’t go wrong with a name like Otis Blunt, or you must go wrong with a name like Otis Blunt. And c’mon Mr. Espinosa – haven’t you learned anything from P-Diddy? That face is atrocious!

Mississippi State’s Jamont Gordon is getting his props on ESPN.com. The Bulldogs? Well, they’re not doing so well.
Ex-NBAer, Keon Clark
Stories about how alcoholism affects people never ceases to amaze me. Former NBAer, Keon Clark (right), says that at one point, he was up to drinking a half pint of gin every day, and at times, drinking during halftime of games during his NBA career.

Live Game 24 Blog – Washington Wizards vs. Chicago Bulls
| December 20, 2007 | 1:43 pm

Okay, back to blogging…..it’s been a couple days. Overload at work, knee surgery earlier today (more on that later)….yada, yada, yada. The most important thing, I made it home just in time to catch the Wizards-Bulls game. Since I was slightly incapacitated, my boy AJ is going to help me out. But of course, I could not help taking some notes.

So let’s start the show…

1st Quarter

KB
Ok, AJ did not make it home in time for the 1st quarter (or second) and I wasn’t up for taking notes just yet. And perhaps this should’ve been the case for the whole game since the 1st was the best quarter of the game for the Wizards. They came out with some energy, moved the ball well, and Caron Butler was leading the offensive flow with 6 assists. At the end of one, the Wizards led 27-20. I believe the Wizards shot over 50% for the 1st. And then came the……

Live Game 23 Blog: Washington Wizards vs. Sacramento Kings
| December 15, 2007 | 11:53 pm

By now, everyone knows that Antonio Daniels will be out with a sprained knee for 2-4 weeks. Initially, I figured that Roger Mason would start. Wizards Insider has just reported that Nick Young will get the nod.

“…but I’m hearing that Nick Young will start along with DeShawn Stevenson tonight against Sacramento. Not Mason. The reason, according to the person I spoke with, is that Eddie doesn’t want to put Nick Young, Dominic McGuire and Andray Blatche on the court at the same time. He’d rather have a vet like Mason out there with the young guys.”

Reconsidered, I think this is a great move by Eddie Jordan. Not only is it good to balance out an inexperienced rotation, but I also like how he is putting Bean Burrito aka Nick Young on the spot to perform.

Eddie Jordan: “It could change, game by game.”

The Results Are In….Nick Young's New Nickname
| December 15, 2007 | 6:28 pm

Ok, so Mr. Irrelevant hasn’t exactly announced the “official” results of the Nick Young nickname vote as of yet. But sources inform Truth About It that most of the precincts have reported, so it’s only a matter of time until Bean Burrito is officially declared the winner.

Why Bean Burrito? Well, it’s what Nick, himself, wanted. Maybe we can call him “BB” or “BBNY” for short. In any case, the timing could not be better (or worse) depending on how you look at it.

Finding out that Antonio Daniels would be out for 2-4 weeks this morning did not sit well on my stomach. His play while Gilbert Arenas is on the sidelines has been vastly unheralded. And unfortunately, I think his being out will lead us all to realize this.

Of course, all over Wizards Insider...they’re hitting the panic button (they being those on the comment board). Thing is, look how this team has dealt with adversity so far. I see no reason as to why the players would get down about the injury to AD. Is it ideal? Well, what do you think? But the Wizards are a tough team and they will continue to be tough.

The Bri-ManHung OO-ver….Brian Fantana style….and still trying to recover from last night’s office holiday krunk party with 250 (or so) of my closest co-workers. Also trying to recover from the fact that the damn “club” had no televisions for me to at least peep Wiz game updates. Oh well, it was all for the better….cause DC won!! Take that Miami. Your basketball team has put me through a lot in these past couple years, and now the sports in your town sucks.

Thanks to my mans n them for stepping up…..AJ took over the game blogging duties. So let’s check out what happened…..and if you see any chocolate squirrels running around, go in the other direction.

Now let’s start the show….

Letter to Gilbert Arenas – Can You Be A Legend?
| December 13, 2007 | 3:07 pm

Dear Gil,…I ain’t T.I., but I’m talking to you.

Right now, while on that bench, you should be salivating, you should be loving it. I hope you’re learning too. No, not in terms of recovering from surgery. But just look at how this Washington Wizards team is developing; unexpectedly, they are 8 and 5 without you, their superstar. Realize how this team is standing up like men, while the winning-shot-hitting gamer is out with a knee.

Yes Gil, DC’s Wizards are becoming all growns up. Positive signs are strong, but be cautioned, there will be growing pains to survive. On the real, perhaps you doubted it after you got hurt, and I’d say perhaps you are wrong….but this still can be the takeover reloaded season. It’s not just about you taking over. It was never going to be you who won a conference championship, a playoff series, whatever. Hell, Jordan never won those titles either. No, the Chicago Bulls won those titles. Granted, the Bulls would not have been able to do it without Jordan. Just as the Wizards cannot achieve their loftiest goals without Gilbert Arenas.

*semi-side rant* Talking heads such as Stephen A. Smith have recently dumped a bucket of Hater-ade on the blogoshere. He bellowed that bloggers are untrained experts who should not have the ability to reach a mass audience. Not so, Steph Aloysius Smith. What is the point of mass media in the first place? To inform the public. Hint: public is underlined cause it’s kinda important. Blogs, comment boards, message boards…any public venue for expression…swing the power of information closer to where it should be, in the hands of the public. An educated society will simply use the rapidly available dissemination of information to their educated advantage, knowing not to rely on single source reporting, professional or unprofessional. Ahhh…it just clicked didn’t it — wow, a balanced system of sources is good for all of us.

Ok – *100% side rant* – but back to those bloggers Gil, those message board posters, those comment board preachers. Some of them are out there, chirping:

Live Game 21 Blog: Washington Wizards vs. Minnesota Timberwolves
| December 12, 2007 | 12:02 am

Ok, so it goes without saying that this game is one the Wizards need to secure. The T-Wolves are the worst, but the NBA is a professional sports league…..nap and you might go home to a restless night of sleep.

T’Wolves coach, Randy Wittman, missed their last 3 games after undergoing a backiotomy. I bet he just needed to talk to Sampson. But even more important, the Wiz float at .500 as I type. It would be nice for them to keep above the waterline and get running down hill.

Now let’s start the show…

1st Quarter

Craig Smith is a big dude. He’s gonna be a load for Antawn Jamison to handle…then again, I think AJ will take the +/- with his effort on the offensive end.

All about athletes, the good ones.

Strange Yi Jianlian Chinese commercial…then again, what Chinese television production is not odd in a comically innocent type of way? Here, Yi is just another man, doling out milk to the ladies. Just Another Bucks Fan has a great account/translation.

Phil Chenier and Steve Buckhantz on the 1 & 2 talking about the friendly upcoming schedule for the Wizards – 6 of 10 remaining December games are at home. Only one of those opponents is playing .500 ball right now, the Pacers at 10-10….although, the Hawks are 1 below .500 and the Wiz face the Heat twice and the Bulls once during this stretch. So, it’s not as easy as they make it out to be…then again, It’s Business Time.

Damn, it looks like the Pecan Sandies are going to win. Kids day at the Verizon Center. “Great.”

Now let’s start the show…

1st Quarter
