Quarter Season: How NBA Bloggers Rank The MVP and ROY Candidates

By
Updated: December 17, 2008

Every couple of weeks in the 2008-2009 season, bloggers from ’round the NBA blogosphere will participate in a poll ranking the top 10 MVP candidates and the top five Rookie of the Year candidates. The idea was hatched by the guys at Brew Hoop and a different blog site will host each installment of the rankings. The first installment was hosted by Ryan McNeill of Hoops Addict, the second hosted by Rob Mahoney of Upside and Motor, and the third by Lee Grammier of The Dream Shake.

My rankings are as follows:

MVP Rankings
(previously ranked week 1, week 2)

LeBron James wrote the book of crying baby - Truth About It.net
#1 Lebron James (2, 1) – Ugh….I gotta include a pic of LeBaby James on this blog again….oh well, game gotta recognize game.

#2 Dwyane Wade (1, 7) – Sure the Heat are only hovering a couple games above .500, but that’s quite an accomplishment considering that each Miami’s top 10 5-man units includes either a rookie, Mario Chalmers, or some cat named Chris Quinn at the point.

#3 Chris Paul (3, 5) – CP3 leads the NBA by far with a Net Points of +43.1 while on the court.

#4 Kevin Garnett (9, 3) – The guy talks trash, barks like a dog on all fours, makes big babies cry……all while keeping the team together as they break records for the best start in Celtics franchise history.

#5 Kobe Bryant (6, 2) – Kobe is Kobe…and the Lakers are still best in the West. He’s not putting up the best numbers of his career…..doesn’t need to. Then again, without the Kobester, the Lakers are a .500 team at best.

#6 Dwight Howard (8, 4) – Howard leads the league in rebounds per game, blocks per game, total rebound % and allows guys like Rashard Lewis to lead the league in three-point makes and attempts.

#7 Chauncey Billups (NR, 6) – Hmm….what do you know, a Denver lineup featuring Billups is ranked 1st among 5-man units in Net Points Per 48 Minutes.

#8 Joe Johnson (4, NR) – Johnson is 5th in the NBA in 4th quarter points per game; the Hawks are 3rd in the NBA in Net 4th quarter points…..you do the math.

#9 Tim Duncan (NR, NR) - The Spurs are 15-8, atop the Southwest Division, as Duncan leads a team featuring the likes of Matt Bonner, Michael Finley, and Roger Mason Jr….oh yea, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili have missed a combined 21 games.

#10 Paul Pierce (5, 9) - Paul Peazy has just as much of a hand in Boston’s wins as KG…..except not as much.

ROY Rankings (previously ranked week 1, week 2)

#1 Derrick Rose (1, 1)

#2 OJ Mayo (3, 2)

#3 Rudy Fernandez (NR, 3)

#4 Mario Chalmers (NR, NR)

#5 George Hill (NR, NR)

Ok, now head over to the Dream Shake to check out the full Quarter Season Blogger MVP and ROY Rankings.
