Healing the Cursed Wizards Lottery Destiny
| March 31, 2009 | 4:01 pm

Will this Witchdoctor help the Wizards? - Stephan Malik/flickrI know it’s a bit early to start thinking about the NBA Draft….well, not really.

I couldn’t help myself as I watched the calm/cool/collective, yet, tough and banging exploits of Blake Griffin this past Sunday against UNC.

The Wizards want him on that line, they need him on that line.

All the fodder amongst “us” Wizards fans is that we are due for some good luck in the draft.

So naturally, I wrote a killjoy piece on NBC Washington called, Don’t Bet on Wizards Lottery Luck.

I'm Not So Sure About This Blake Griffin Dude
| March 28, 2009 | 1:42 am

Wizards fans, do we really want a guy who might be hitting his head on the rim….or backboard….when he goes for dunks?

I. think. not.

Blake Griffin hits his head on the backboard - TruthAboutIt.neteasy jerks, just kidding

If the Wiz get the #1 or #2 pick, take Griffin or Ricky Rubio….if not, try to package the pick with a contract (Etan Thomas or Mike James) or some prospect (Nick Young or Andray Blatche) for some true to the game help.

Nobody said it was going to be easy, Ernie Grunfeld. Read more »

Wizards v. Bobcats: The Game Blog In Screen Shots Pt. 2
| March 26, 2009 | 9:33 pm

A great man once said that a picture is worth a thousand words…I could be wrong, but I think that great man was Jesus.

And, my game blogs, which have become noticeably sparse, tend to be very, very lengthy.

So, in lieu, I present what went down last night via screen shots.

Enjoy America.

Oh yea, part one of this is on Bullets Forever……go there first and then come back here.

Caron Butler was sorry and sad about how the season has gone.
(cue the slow, sappy piano music)
Oh, BTW….renew your season tickets NOW! NOW! NOW!

Tonight's Wizards-Bobcats Game is Effing HUGE!
| March 25, 2009 | 9:37 pm
A dead Charlotte Bobcat - flickr/idirtysnowflakeU dead cat.

Hey you!….jerk Wizards fan (pointing to myself in mirror)….What, you have nothing to look forward to? (aside from the season ending)

Oh…I forgot, you’re all jazzed about Gilbert Arenas playing on Saturday. Keep it in your pants hot shot, that’s a ‘believe it when you see it’ situation.

I’m not talking three days from now, I’m talking TONIGHT!

Wait…..that’s right, you’re all BLAH, BLAH, BLAH…. “I want Dominic McGuire to score!!!”

Wizards Lottery Ball Memes: The Rundown
| March 24, 2009 | 7:34 pm

These memes are looking for the Wizards - flickr/RcktManILThe Wizards lost to the Bulls last night while giving the kiddies floor burn much to the delight of Wizards malcontents who would find negativity in just about anything (and no, despite popular belief, I am not one of those people).

But you’ve got Ivan Carter with his “Race to the Bottom” meme (ok, maybe it’s not really a meme….in fact, even after reading the Wiki, I’m still not quite sure I understand the concept of a meme……who cares…..maybe this guy is right about something … whatever)…..but if you want to create a meme, do it Blowtorch style.

As far as Races to the Bottom….I usually associate those with going to the bar.

But when it comes to the Wizards, and finishing with the worst record in the NBA…..stop it. Stop pointing it out, stop talking about it……it just is.

If Stet Sports didn’t make it clear, go back and understand:

Random: So What's David Wesley Doing?
| March 24, 2009 | 4:48 am

You remember David Wesley….former NBAer, longtime Hornet, one time speed racer (what, too soon?).

I was flipping around on whatever day it was….with basketball, they all run into each other…and evidently Baylor was playing against someone in some tournament…..probably NIT (is the CBI even on television? is it black-listed from MSMer and the blogworld alike?)…..and there was David Wesley: student manager.

David Wesley, Student Manager, BaylorWesley needed 33 credits to graduate, so working on that physical education degree while watching basketball…..good for him.

Wesley never played for the Wizards, but is connected to several people who have:

Is Gilbert Arenas The Boy Who Cried Wolf?
| March 23, 2009 | 8:16 pm

My first thought was: Are you effing kidding me?

As rumors about Gilbert Arenas’ possible return to the basketball court leaked via a supposed text message from Arenas to Comcast’s Chris Miller, then to the world wide web via a Twitter tweet from Comcast’s Andy Siegel, which was ultimately picked up by Mr. Irrelevant and the DC Sports Bog (twitters…internets…boy, if you were ever looking for more signs that newspapers are dying).

“Ur the first to get the truth,” Arenas texted to Miller.

Of course, Gil then told the Washington Post’s Dan Steinberg, “It’s only true if I play on Saturday. If I don’t play, it ain’t true.”

Ahh…if Gilbert only knew what the “truth” was….instead, he offers to play his basketball life out in a comedy of errors.

Everybody Wants JaVale McGee
| March 22, 2009 | 2:59 pm

The Spot Light is on JaVale McGee - flickr/Keith AllisonJaVale McGee has made quite the impression on the NBA.

Ashy to classy? More like from draft night ‘WTF?!!’ to ‘the Wizards shouldn’t trade this kid for anything.’

As Young Choppa’s minutes have increased, fans in league arenas across the nation are starting to notice. And dreams of pilfering the kid with the hot mom from Ernie Grunfeld have commenced.

No dice.

But the Wizards’ future aspirations for a shot blocking piece of alley-ooping weaponry does not go victimless.

Birdman's Energy Airs Out Wizards
| March 21, 2009 | 8:06 pm

All you really need to know about the Wizards’ loss to the Nuggets on Friday.

One moment, Andray Blatche is going to the basket aggressively. Blatche, a wiry big man who relies too much on his guard skills, thinks he can comfortably slide by the smaller man and float up a scoop shot.

Andray Blatche take a sissy scoops shot - Truth About It.netBut then comes the feathered wing of a flying Birdman.

NOPE!

Kids don’t go hard anymore, they’re too cool for school.
Birdman Chris Anderson is retro like that.

53 Losses & Counting: Wizards at LA Clippers
| March 19, 2009 | 7:44 pm

A Clipper - flickr/*L*u*z*a* lack of inspiration
Somebody asked me, “Did you stay up for the game?”

“Yea…,” I slowly answered….and then I realized (or recalled)…the Wizards lost that effing game last night.

Did they, or did they not, have any business losing?

The answer is obvious: of course.

Still, those damn kids started off so well…dunking the ball all over the damn place.

Jazz Hands Slip Through Wizards Fingers: Game 68 Blog
| March 18, 2009 | 6:17 pm

Jazz Hands Slip Through Wizards Fingers: Game 68 Blog - Truth About It.netQ1

7:14: Andray Blatche gets blocked by Mehmet Okur…..a very sad scene to witness. Okur barely jumped, if at all, and Andray took it to the hoop like a four-year old girl chasing after a puppy.

4th Minute: JaVale McGee has got a couple nice offensive boards, but doesn’t use his body/leverage to his advantage. He’s trying to be all arms and hops. So on one, he missed a forced hook and on the second, he got blocked byOkur (who the hell is this guy, Mutombo?).

In the first…..Utah’s passing looks good (6 assists on 9 made FGs = Swiss Cheese Wiz D)….but Deron Williams has four turnovers (two on the first two possessions of the game) to only one assist.

2:00: McGee gets an offensive rebound with two hands, keeps the ball high with both hands on it, and gets fouled on a missed attempt….now that’s the way to do things.

Caron Butler Not Too Hamstrung To Get Down
| March 16, 2009 | 2:16 pm
Tuff Juice is checkin’ his fresh.

Having a tight hammy, and thus leaving last Friday’s Magic game at half, wasn’t going to stop Caron Butler from donning a secret service outfit, diamond encrusted wrist bling, and celebrating his 29th birthday at one of his favorite spots, the Park at 14th.

From Wizards Outlet:

He said that he was feeling pretty good the last week after sitting out three games the previous week, but when he made a move to the basket against Orlando, the hamstring clinched up. He’s been getting treatment ever since then and it has yet to improve. Here’s to hoping it’s nothing worse than just the tightness it has been classified as.

Butler is scheduled to have an MRI on his bothersome hamstring today, so his status for even traveling to Utah this afternoon for the upcoming four game road trip is seemingly up in the air.

Does Ed Tapscott Read Blogs?
| March 14, 2009 | 6:39 pm

Does Ed Tapscott Read Blogs? - Truth About It.net

Well, Wizards fans much maligned by coaching decisions must be giddy about last night’s game. The combo of Nick Young, Javaris Crittenton, Dominic McGuire, JaVale McGee, and Antawn ‘The Gentleman’ Jamison had the game in their hands down the stretch.

Maybe Ed Taspcott reads blogs and newspapers as opines on the direction of the remainder of the season have been abundant: [the Post's Michael Lee, DC Pro Sports Report, comments on Bullets Forever, Krem's Sports Blog].

Coach Tap is a fan of using quotes from philosophers and great leaders, but does that mean he ignores the words of the masses? Who knows….but hopefully Tapscott will find ways to improve overall team experience for the season’s remaining games.

Magic Twitters Wizards
| March 14, 2009 | 3:29 pm

Magic Twitters Wizards - flickr/Hryck.Just like last Wednesday’s game against the NOLA Hornets, I attended Friday night’s game against the O-Town Magic and forgot to set my DVR to compose a game blog later. But twitter tweets provide a similar account and save me the time from having to watch a loss….again – suffered enough of that this season. So, here are the tweets from last night’s game with some guests.

BulletsForever: I wouldn’t hold it against the Magic if they tried to one-up the 3 point record they set against Sacramento. -Jake Friday, March 13, 2009 6:53 PM

Dennymayo: Apparently the wizards were called the zephyrs way back in the day, pre-bullets. Who would have thought, or cared? Friday, March 13, 2009 7:04 PM

Caron Butler Stumps For Darius Songaila
| March 13, 2009 | 9:32 pm

Darius Songaila is graceful like dove - flickr/Keith AllisonYou may or may not know that I have an infatuation with Darius Songaila (chill out….it’s healthy and non-sexual).

D-Song is a baller-brawler, a hustler, and he doesn’t care what you think. Play him a lot, play him a little, he’s still going to give you the same effort night in and night out.

Unfortunately, Songaila doesn’t always get the recognition he deserves. He’s slow, too undersized to play center, and doesn’t rebound well — he’s averaging a career low 5.0 per 36 minutes this year (but if there was a hockey assist equivalent for rebounding, Songaila would kill).

But finally, someone with much more credibility than me is giving the Lithuanian his props.

When asked, If you had one vote for this season, which Wizard off the bench would you give your All-Star vote to and why?,” in a recent chat, Caron Butler responded:
