Chris Paul Effed Around and Got a Triple Double, I Twittered
| March 12, 2009 | 7:30 pm

Chris Paul Effed Around and Got a Triple Double - flickr/Zach KleinWent to the Wizards-Hornets game last night … thanks to KJ the ticket provider, my boy Adam and I had a chance to catch the bedazzledry (word/not a word?) of Chris Paul. Didn’t have a chance to get home and DVR the game, so Bullets Forever will not feature a game blog.

But….I did twitter at the game, which is what all the babies, babies’ mommas and babies’ momma’s mommas are doing.

So, below is the lazy twittering man’s game blog, featuring tweets from the proprietors of NOLA blog, Hornets Hype, ticktock6 (purple) and mW_ (red).

Enjoy…..or not.

Alright, heading out the door to check out the Wizards versus the Hornets…..a shot for every assist by CP3?

Darius Songaila is on FIYAA!!
| March 11, 2009 | 10:00 pm

Just look at those hot spots son! Bask in their warmth…but not too long, you might get a tan.

Not only did D-Song go off with an 8-9 FG, 19 point performance against the T-Wolves, but those stats are from his last TEN games.

Before the All-Star break, Darius “Dirty” Songaila played in 52 games, starting 10, and dropped 6.1 ppg on 50% shooting. In the 11 games since the break, all starts, he is draining 65.9% of his shots and scoring 11.5 points per.

Ernie Grunfeld, you MUST keep this pasty white, Justin Timberlake impersonating, choir boy on this team….he will be a key role player in the future.

Bullets on the Wizards:

Washington Wizards and Nicknames
| March 11, 2009 | 4:57 pm

The Washington Wizards are an eclectic bunch with a wide variety of nicknames.

Well, our friends to the Canadian north at Hoop Heads North have put together a list of lesser-known NBA nicknames, and I gladly supplied some of the well-known (at least in Wizards Nation circles), and some of the lesser-known ones that just haven’t caught on (apologies if I missed any):

Caron Butler = Tuff Juice
Brendan Haywood = Artist Formerly Known As Brenda
Dominic McGuire = The Taser, The Cleaner
Etan Thomas = The Poet
Nick Young = The City, Bean Burrito, Red Rooster
Gilbert Arenas = Agent Zero, Black President, Agent Wackipants, Captain Quirk
Antawn Jamison = The Gentleman
Oleksiy Pecherov = Big Oily, Stewie, I Get Buckets Son, The White Hole
JaVale McGee = Epic Vale, The Choppa, Lemon Head, Kill + Mode = Chee$e
Andray Blatche = Unbreakable
DeShawn Stevenson = The Lock Smith
Darius Songaila = D-Song, The Dirty

And below….old nickname-related Photoshops & stuff.

Touched By A Songaila: Wizards Over Timberwolves
| March 10, 2009 | 5:08 pm

Darius Songaila will make you cry - flickr/Keith AllisonThe Wizards beat an inferior Timberwolves squad, 110-99, Minny’s 10th loss in a row, thanks to veteran swag and strong contributions from the mostly youthful bench.

The four oldest players available (Jamison – 32, Dixon – 30, Songaila – 30, and Butler – 28) combined to score 81 points, 73.6% of the total.

But that doesn’t take away from what Blatche, McGee, Crittenton, Young and McGuire contributed in the win. In fact, Young and McGee led the team in +/-, both finishing +11.

The Wizards bench outscored the Wolves bench 26-16 and also contributed 16 of the team’s 46 total rebounds.

Paced By A Lithuanian

Darius Songaila came out on fire…..before you knew it, he had 11 points in the first 4:34, finishing the game on 8-9 FGs and 19 points, four off his career high.

At Least JaVale McGee Dunked On Some Fool

The Wizards were just what the Mavericks needed on Saturday night….yep, that’s my cliche opening sentence. How ’bout it?

I watched all the way up until around ten minutes left in the 4th quarter, the Wiz having just gone down by 13 points. It was at that point I felt a loss was imminent, secure in the fact that it was time to go out drinking.

Absolutely Irrelevant: Reggie Bush is a Nats Fan?
| March 9, 2009 | 2:01 pm

Baseball season is just over a month away. And while the expectations of the Washington Nationals run the gambit (well, up until the scenario involves making the playoffs), I personally can’t wait to head out to the ball park for doses of friends, beer & relaxing.

Nats opening day will surely get attention as Obama is scheduled to throw out the first pitch against the World Champion D-Bags from Philly……their baseball team that won the most recent World Series will be playing as well.

What does this have to do with the Wizards on this purported “Wizards” blog? Not much…..other than I came across the below picture of Reggie Bush wearing a Nationals hat…..and I hold the right to post about DC sports in general.

Not exactly sure how I feel about this. Bush’s playing habits convey a slightly douchey persona. Oh well, if the curly dub is getting repped in public, then I’m cool with it.

Wizards' Youth Is Scary
| March 7, 2009 | 3:13 pm
The Battle of Old v. Young

The Battle of Old v. Young - flickr/AlphaTangoBravo-Adam BakerThe stories will read that the Wizards got “out manned” by the Spurs last night. True, with Gilbert Arenas, Caron Butler, Brendan Haywood, DeShawn Stevenson and Etan Thomas out, the Wiz were not playing with a full deck. But you won’t get many tears from the Spurs. Tim Duncan is still trying to get in rhythm from being injured and Manu Ginobili hasn’t seen the court since February 11th.

No, the Wizards got out veteraned and out experienced.

Wiz faithful, within the organization and in the stands, bow their heads everyday in hopes of a future full of health. But who are we kidding? The will be injuries and the Wizards will have to persevere if they expect to contend for anything.

Grow up kids, grow up fast.

Dominic McGuire is on track. He still has a ton to learn, but his hustle swag, which has induced a starting role, will be invaluable next season when he is the 8th man…..or better.

JaVale McGee
gets cut some slack. The kid is still growing into his body.

Bow Your Head For A Back Tat
| March 6, 2009 | 9:18 pm

DeShawn Stevenson's Back TatDeShawn Stevenson successfully underwent surgery to (hopefully) repair a herniated disk today.

And while he won’t be wearing his Wizards jersey for another 3-4 months, DeShawn is one of the lucky few who has a jersey with him 24/7.

But it’s not your typical jersey…..the last name has a sweet skin to black gradient and the #2 is filled with dollar signs and bullet holes.

Pray for DeShawn Stevenson, DMX style ….but not this DMX style.

Bow your head and hope that this piece of classy back tat craftsmanship has not been ruined by a backiotomy.

LeBron James Pulls An Andray Blatche
| March 5, 2009 | 9:20 pm

Andray Blatche balls, farts and clubs - Truth About It.netYa’ll remember when Andray Blatche was crop dusting the Wizards bench?

LeBron James does.

And just like he copies Kevin Garnett/Michael Jordan with his fairy dust routine, he’s now copying how Andray makes others remember his spirit.

See for yourself.

Apathy Over Losing Mounts: Wizards Game 61 Blog at OKC Thunder
| March 5, 2009 | 4:59 pm
Typical scene from modern day Oklahoma
where the dust bowl continues.

Oklahoma Dust Bowl - flickr/Casino Jones
Started to watch the beginning of the Wizards-Thunder game last night…but fell asleep, bloggers need naps too. I’d intended on waking up at some point and watching from the start…..but then thought, am I really missing anything?

So, the game blog picks at the end of the 2nd quarter.

———————————-

Why do they play “Whomp, There It Is!” when good things happen at OKC games? (well, when Russell Westbrook does good things) Bet that’s the only hip-hop song (wait, is that song considered hip-hop?) that’s “safe” for the white people in Oklahoma.

As soon as I turn the game on, you got 10-0 Thunder runs, Wizards matador defense, Russell Westbrook dunks…..36-35 OKC.

Of course, the Thunder are in a competition with the Wiz to see who can turn the ball over more.

Spreading the phrase “Bamma” to the blogosphere…..wait, does the use of the word ‘blogosphere’ make me a bamma? Awww efff it.

Would you like to speak Canadian?

The Fable of Ben Wallace — an the parable, of sorts…..for Wizards fans…..is that Dominic McGuire is untouchable.

Ye Olde Sex Shoppe?

Recognition of classic Outkast.

Stay Waiting On Andray Blatche
| March 3, 2009 | 8:23 pm

The Wizards stay waiting on the potential of Andray BlatcheAndray Blatche had a great start to last night’s game against the Hawks. He hit three open jumpers that Atlanta gave to him, and a crazy out-of-control runner for eight points in the first quarter.

Unfortunately, in the second half, he settled for jumpers. And the times he did drive to the hoop, he seemed to easily bobble the ball away as if he didn’t value it with intensity.

But that’s the Andray Blatche we know….a foundering soul from whom we keep expecting big things.

In the post game show, Comcast’s Ron Thompson and Chris Miller dubbed Blatche a “20 & 10 waiting to happen.”

But how long are we supposed to wait?

The Position of JaVale McGee
| March 2, 2009 | 10:12 pm

JaVale McGee can stretch with the best of them - flickr/Keith AllisonThere’s a developing conundrum on how exactly JaVale McGee should be used in the Wizards offensive/defensive schemes.

As Wizards TV personalities Phil Chenier and Steve Buckhantz have commented on numerous occasions throughout the season, there has been a drastic increase in alley-oops from the Wizards, perhaps more than the past several seasons combined.

You have young JaVale McGee to thank. The kid’s ability to run like a gazelle on the break and sky above everyone else is an invaluable tool that must be used to the Wizards’ advantage.

But there’s the catch, using McGee in such a manner means that at times he’ll be susceptible to sneaking out on the break before the defensive rebound is secured. If you’ve got a guy on the court who’s 7’1″ in socks, you want him hitting the defensive boards hard, right?

So is McGee better suited to play the high post on offense?

Hope for Rubio Good For Wizards No Matter What
| March 2, 2009 | 4:55 am

Wizards Hope for Ricky RubioMany have believed that 18-year old phenom, Ricky Rubio, would not enter the 2009 NBA draft because of a six million Euro buyout from his current contract with DKV Joventut of the Spanish ACB league.

However, recent reports, including one from Draft Express on February 22nd, indicate that via Rubio’s representatives, U.S. agent Dan Fegan, negotiations are under way to reduce Rubio’s buyout to three or four million Euros.

Rubio is very likely to be a top three pick in the ’09 draft which would be the most favorable conditions for a possible buyout. ESPN’s Chad Ford follows up with a Feb. 27th report that there are strong indications that Rubio will be available in the upcoming draft.

How does this benefit the Wizards?

Well, obviously, the potential lottery pick for a team currently tied with Oklahoma City for the second worst record in the NBA (two games behind the league worst Sacramento Kings) gets more valuable in what is considered a weak draft.

So, if the Wizards are looking to package either or both of the last year contracts of Etan Thomas and Mike James, the two most preferable to jettison, with a draft pick, the presence of Rubio makes it more enticing for the potential partner. Of course, we won’t know where the Wiz stand in the draft until the season’s over and the draft lottery is held during playoff basketball in May.

Wizards Get Bucked: Game 59 Blog vs Milwaukee
| March 1, 2009 | 4:46 pm

Wizards Get Bucked - flickr/trekguyI watched most of the Wizards game before heading out for the night. They simply didn’t entice me to stay with their lack of energy, effort, and patience/ball movement on offense. So, watching the rest of the game on Sunday, I pick the game blog up here:

5:00 left in the 3rd, the Wizards are down 13 on the road….do they have what it takes?

Well, to start off, Songaila is scrapping, in the paint on the floor, in the midst of a fray of humanity, and comes away with the ball for an assist from his back to Caron Butler for a dunk. 72-61 Bucks.

4:16: Wiz get another turnover….Butler jets down the court, goes straight under the rim, puts Charlie Bell on his back and becomes a very easy target for a pass from Mike James. 73-63 Bucks.

Mbah a Moute muscles Butler under the rim…Blatche goes to help and that leaves Gadzuric available for the put-back. 75-63 Bucks.
