Jake, you don't know what you are talking about. That 1988-1989 Rutgers team had an unbelievable storybook run that year. it was Wenzel's 1st year as head coach and Rutgers (who had trouble recruitign against th Big East) was predicted to finish 10th in the Atlantic 10!!! Towards the end of the season the team was at .500 (about 13-13) and had a sotrybook run the equivalent of the National Championship! The team just started winning and you could just feel the momentum. The last home game of the season was against Temple who was a top 10-15 team if not #1-that Temple team had gone into Chapel Hill and smacked North Carolina at the Dean Dome by 20-25 the prior year (miss the 1st gamew when my car broke down straddling the parkign lot and gave up my student tickets at UNC to my old roomate for the latter). Rutgers won that game and the momentum was quite tangible. Next was the Atlantic 10 tourney where Rutgers brought 7,000-8,000 fans to the Palestra ion Philly in 10-inch snowstorm!!! Rutgers upset Temple in Philly and earned a home game against Penn State inthe final. Rutgers won that game in what was probably the most wild basketball game this person ever saw. Ironically after most of the Rutgers Athletic Center piled onto the floor in celebration I wound up running past Eddie Jordan himself. I looked up at Eddie who was looking stunned like myself and said to Eddie "Reminds you of the olden days doesn't it?". Eddie just looked at me and smiled. Rutgers was beaten in the 1st round of the NCAA's by a smoking hot BJ Armstrong and Iown. Ironically I'm not sure many knew about Van Gundy. I only found out about him a year or two later when I saw players from that team run towards Jeff-it was and is the only time I have ever seen a bunck of black guys run towards a white guy. My best Rutgers memories of all time...

That Rutgers team (pretty much the same team) was 8-21 the season before Wenzel and Company got there and finished the season strong, winning the A-10 Championship Game and making the NCAA Tournament (knocked out in the first round by BJ Armstrong and the Iowa Hawkeyes).

Oddly enough that team with Bob Wenzel, Eddie Jordan and JVG only went 18-13. That's not bad, but you'd think they could have put something better together.
