JaVale McGee is the Double Pits To Chesty Dunk Champion

Updated: January 20, 2010

First, JaVale McGee swatted four shots last Saturday against the Kings to surpass 100 blocks for his career.  Now this:

I’d say things are looking up for the kid. Now if he can further prove his worth in Flip Saunders’ zone defense, he just might get more burn on the court.

Relevant Stat: Wizards team blocks per 48 minutes goes up 5% when McGee is on the floor. []

Have you seen Javale’s Mom tweets? She appears to dislike the lack of PT being doled out by Flip to her baby boy. She wants to start a campaign to “free McGee”.

I really hope Javale takes the next step in developing. He certainly has potential but I get this bad feeling that his head got too big ever since Dwight Howard praised him in that preseason game his rookie year. Like he thinks its just a matter of getting playing time rather than that he needs to work hard on his fundamentals.

  • Yea, I saw that one Tweet of hers that JaVale re-tweeted … who knows what she means (playing time or trade) …

A lot of JaVale’s issues simply derive from needing experience and know-how to be in the right place at the right time on defense.

Hopefully he’s learned some veteran tricks of the trade from guys like Haywood, Jamison and Songaila too.

As far as McGee’s mom, I’ve heard that she can be a handful to deal with … but then again, what mom who loves her son isn’t at times?
