Links, Commentary, Notes From The Dallas Game and Caron Butler With A Clown
| October 12, 2009 | 10:06 pm

Some recent links (with commentary) and forgotten notes from last Friday’s preseason game against the Mavericks at the Verizon Center in D.C. …

Evidently on Sunday morning, Caron Butler was slated to co-chair the ‘Sister to Sister’s Bike For The Heart’ event with D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty at the Verizon Center in Washington. But the Wizards also had a preseason game in Toronto, Canada at 3 pm that afternoon. Event host Irene Pollin, Wizards co-owner, told Butler that he could attended that morning and just catch up with the team at their next stop in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The team’s other ‘co-owner’, Irene’s husband Abe, said “nope,” indicating he wanted Butler in Toronto, supporting his teammates. So Abe called up his private jet and whisked Butler, along with team president Ernie Grunfeld, to T-Dot after the event and in time for Butler to get in a workout before the Raptors game.

More Juice Please: Why Butler Should Shoot As Much As Arenas
| August 20, 2009 | 12:51 am

[Ed. Note: this is the first post by newcomer docfunk, who was introduced in the previous post]

During each Wizards game I hope for 3 things:

  1. Gilbert Arenas escapes unscathed.
  2. DeShawn Stevenson does his face-wave much to the chagrin of former-Bullet turned broadcaster, Phil Chenier.
  3. Caron Butler takes 20 shots or more.

The Wizards are often dismissed as a cavalry of role-players marching to the syncopated beat of Gilbert Arenas. For the past 2 seasons, we have witnessed the Wizards attempt to play Rockband sans-drummer. What resulted was a throw-the-controller inducing 19-win season which we blamed (unfairly) on Eddie Jordan’s playlist.

Your Washington Wizards: Clubbing In Miami and Building Playgrounds
| July 11, 2009 | 12:12 pm

Maybe Caron Butler was just born a travelin’ man, or perhaps he’s a rollin’ stone … but without the negative connotations that come with those terms.

So for this off-season, Tuff Juice has hung with Orpah at an awards banquet in D.C., chewed straws with with NBC 4’s Lindsay Czarniak at the Cheesecake Factory, performed a day of community service for Caron Butler Day in Racine, WI, thrown the first pitch at a Nats game, coached at Big Tigger’s Celebrity Basketball Classic and celebrated at Lux Lounge, attended the Marcus Johnson album release party at the Ritz Carlton in Georgetown, sat ringside at the Pacquiao-Hatton fight in Vegas, has been the topic of a rap song courtesy of Mr. Wicked, chilled with Kobe in L.A., and checked Venus Williams and the Washington Kastles while telling the departed Oleksiy Pecherov that he’s just a phone call or text away.

And I’m sure that isn’t the half of it.

Tonight, Butler, along with Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony, Delonte West, and Michael Beasley (all dubbed as Caron’s “friends” as he is the headliner), will be hosting, depending on which flier you look at, a Worldwide Tour or National Tour at Bed Nightclub in South Beach Miami.

If I didn’t know better, Mr. Butler might be angling for a future career in politics.

Clownin’ With The Washington Wizards
| July 7, 2009 | 11:16 am

I swear I saw this video before … especially since it was filmed in the Wizards locker room when March Madness ’09 was about to commence. But then again, maybe not since the YouTube date says June 22, 2009.

In any case, the highlights include:

  • Andray Blatche saying: “I don’t care about no ‘Match Mardness’, okay? I ain’t go to college. I don’t know nothin’ about college, okay?”
  • Nick Young wearing a hat you’d usually see on an old lady going to church.
  • Caron Butler bagging on Nick Young and USC: “I think Nick the only guy from USC in the league … and he on his way out. Message!”

Caron Butler’s Busy Monday
| June 9, 2009 | 3:10 pm

Caron Butler had a pretty busy Monday, jetting around the city of Racine in his ‘Day of Service’ — that Tuff Juice is a stand-up guy.

Yesterday I took a moment to recognize Caron over at NBC Washington.

The Racine Journal Times had a full run-down of the events, which you can see charted on the map below or by clicking here.

Caron Butler Chews Straws at the Cheesecake Factory
| May 27, 2009 | 1:27 pm

Caron Butler recently sat down with NBC 4′s Lindsay Czarniak for an interview. Interesting tid-bits are below, followed by the embedded video from NBC Washington.

  • Butler, like most NBA players, has mad love for the Cheesecake Factory.
  • He enjoys the ‘large’ chicken Caesar salad.
  • He’s a great dad, often working out from 1-5 am so he can rest and then be home when his daughter gets back from school.
  • Tuff Juice has 22-23 straws ready to chew during games … he calls it a fetish.

Caron Butler Lottery Daggers
| April 11, 2009 | 6:57 pm

Just over three minutes left in a close game, Wizards up by one point against an almost equally bad team, the thought crossed my mind….do I hope they lose?

I knew the Clippers and Kings, two of the other top three worst teams in the league, were playing each other last night. It would be “nice” to have better chances in the draft.

But just as quickly as the thought entered my mind, it left. All along, I’ve been against “tanking” or even hoping for more losses just for the possibility of maybe having a better shot at the top pick/Blake Griffin. It just doesn’t seem like good basketball karma, not like it matters with the Curse O’ Les Boulez anyway. But still, we’re talking principles…..principalities.

So eff the lottery it was, I was pulling for my Wizards to win, because that’s what fans do. And a win is what I thought we were getting when Juan Dixon squirmed for a layup with 47 seconds left, putting the Wiz up 96-90.

But nothing ever comes easy. Two straight Raptor threes later, the few of us on the Bullets Forever game thread were screaming for the ghosts of Anthony Parker, Michael Ruffin and Mo Peterson to be exercised.

Caron Butler Not Too Hamstrung To Get Down
| March 16, 2009 | 2:16 pm
Tuff Juice is checkin’ his fresh.

Having a tight hammy, and thus leaving last Friday’s Magic game at half, wasn’t going to stop Caron Butler from donning a secret service outfit, diamond encrusted wrist bling, and celebrating his 29th birthday at one of his favorite spots, the Park at 14th.

From Wizards Outlet:

He said that he was feeling pretty good the last week after sitting out three games the previous week, but when he made a move to the basket against Orlando, the hamstring clinched up. He’s been getting treatment ever since then and it has yet to improve. Here’s to hoping it’s nothing worse than just the tightness it has been classified as.

Caron Butler Stumps For Darius Songaila
| March 13, 2009 | 9:32 pm

Darius Songaila is graceful like dove - flickr/Keith AllisonYou may or may not know that I have an infatuation with Darius Songaila (chill out….it’s healthy and non-sexual).

D-Song is a baller-brawler, a hustler, and he doesn’t care what you think. Play him a lot, play him a little, he’s still going to give you the same effort night in and night out.

Unfortunately, Songaila doesn’t always get the recognition he deserves. He’s slow, too undersized to play center, and doesn’t rebound well — he’s averaging a career low 5.0 per 36 minutes this year (but if there was a hockey assist equivalent for rebounding, Songaila would kill).

But finally, someone with much more credibility than me is giving the Lithuanian his props.

Pre-Trade Deadline Pimpin' With Caron Butler
| February 20, 2009 | 4:03 pm

You know……when we saw Caron limp off the court before Tuesday’s game against Minny was over, he wasn’t hurt, he was just doing a pimp walk.*

Caron Butler at Josephines via DC Fab* Caron Butler was really hurt, something with his hip (not serious)….and for the record, he’s married too. He once admitted, with no shame, to seeing the ‘Sex In The City’ movie with his wifey because he said he said he doesn’t have to “justify his thug.”

I hear ya Tuff Juice.
