Wizards Game 33 Blog at Orlando Magic: A Six Point 2nd Quarter

Wes Unseld Jr. whispers sweet coaching nothings into the ear of Ed TapscottWes Unseld Jr. whispers sweet coaching nothings into the ear of Ed Tapscott

Songaila makes his first start of the season……and I know some may be griping about the Lithuanian at the 5 spot, but history tells us that he does play the best defense against Dwight Howard…..then I saw this, which was via this.

Q1

Of course, Dom McGuire handles the jump ball, and loses anyway.

11:45: I guess it’d also be nice to keep Blatche out of early foul trouble as D-Song picks up his own early foul…..but makes a jumper on the other end. 2-2 Wizards.

Blogger Q&A: Third Quarter Collapse – Orlando Magic Blog
| November 8, 2008 | 8:03 pm

Ben Q. Rock covers the Orlando Magic at his blog, Third Quarter Collapse. One thing I know about Ben is that he is all over the place, all of the time. Thankfully, Ben had a couple minutes to answer some questions about the Magic in anticipation of tonight’s matchup for the Wizards in Orlando. Enjoy.

1) Were you happy with the offseason moves made by the Magic? Does Otis Smith need to do something more drastic to get the team to that next level?

Overall, I’m fairly pleased with the offseason moves. To recap: the Magic drafted shooting guard Courtney Lee, signed free-agent shooting guard Mickael Pietrus, and signed free-agent point guard Anthony Johnson. Pietrus is obviously the highest-profile addition, as he instantly won the starting job vacated by Maurice Evans. Pietrus brings three-point shooting and defense, as Evans did, with the added bonuses of being taller, younger, and more athletic. Right now, he’s not rebounding as well as he should, and his tendency to foul makes his defense problematic, but he’s been a real boon to the offense. I really like the signing so far.

The Magic needed a steady, pure point guard to back up Nelson, who has never played a full 82-game season in his career. Keyon Dooling played himself out of the team’s price range, which is a bit of a bummer because the Magic could really use his defense. But Dooling is not a distributor, and that seems to be the sort of point guard the Magic were after. Johnson fits that role to a T. No, he’s not the best of shooters, but he’s usually mistake-free. All the Magic ask is that he play 15 solid minutes a game. He can do that.

No, this is not Orlando Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy. This is:

Just to set the record is straight, okay? The other guy? Oh c’mon, acting like you’ve never seen Ron Jeremy in a Mario outfit.

ON TAP:
A HUGE Wizards Insider post tonight.

1st: Gilbert gives some straight talk — the East should be scared of the Wizards [essentially].

Washington Wizards Hit The Sunshine Circuit, But What About Gilbert?
| March 19, 2008 | 5:01 pm

Well, the Wizards won’t be seeing what’s in these bags of tricks.

Why? Because Eddie Jordan has set a curfew for his Wizards team on their 2-game Florida road trip. Curious as to why Eddie would do this, as the Washington Post tells, Jordan has never believed in curfews. Is this a reactionary or preemptive move? In any case, I am in agreement because the idea can’t hurt.

“…..a business trip, not a Florida pleasure trip.” -Coach EJ

Moving on to the Atlanta Hawks loss.

Bad Wizards defense…..what more can I say? At least someone was happy to get free donuts as a result of the Hawks win. Bibby is getting props too.

Chris Bosh: Like Your Video, But You're Not An All-Star
| January 4, 2008 | 7:30 pm

Everyone is gushing over Chris Bosh’s All-Star campaign videos. It started with attention from bloggers, then ESPN, and now media markets all over are jumping on the band-wagon. But should Bosh really be an All-Star this year? And will the fans ever get it right?

According to common sense (and working within the current flawed voting system for starter — that’s for another post), here is how it should go in the East for the 2008 NBA All-Star game.

Let’s start with the givens, Kevin Garnett and LeBron James will be the starting forwards. KG leads all players with 1,527,963 votes and LBJ is second overall with 1,294,019.

The fans are right here, Garnett and James are putting up great numbers for great teams and they should both start at forward. No arguments.

At center, Dwight Howard is also a lock to start. He’s more than doubled up Shaq’s 2nd place 466,292 votes. Thumbs up to the fans on Howard, thumbs down for Shaq being number two. (Thank god, it’s about time Shaq missed an All-Star game — there is no way the coaches can select him, is there?)

>> Our very own Agent Zero now has a bond with Boston fans. He also defends the comments he made in Sports Illustrated in his new blog entry.

>> Wow….Chicago Bulls fans are even more upset with their team’s 0-3 start than the Wizards fans are. I guess it’s more surprising because most “experts” picked the Baby Bulls to do better than the Wiz. Not really sure why. But to be chanting Kobe Bryant’s name during games? That would never happen in DC…I hope.

>> Speaking of chanting names, Rocket’s fans are calling for more run for Stevie Franchise. Look, I know he’s a local DC guy, but I’ve never been a fan of Steve Francis. For one, I can’t stand it when privileged athletes whine about where they get selected in the draft, but to cry? On top of that, his ‘ball pounding a hole in the floor’ ways are not exactly conducive to a Rick Adelman offense.

>> Hey, if you’re going to play rough, you gotta protect ya boys.

>> So, are you saying that we’re going to see a Vitamin Water ‘Vote for Hedo’ campaign now?
