NEW FEATURE: Andray Blatche Threat Level Color Coded Alert System.
Ok….I’m glad they’re starting Andray Blatche (Etan Thomas is out with an ankle….Michael Redd is also out for the Bucks with an ankle). I still got hope for the kid and this time, it’s hope that this elevated status, and past poor performance of course, drive him to succeed.
If I could think of the perfect two words to describe Scott Skiles, it would be ‘piss ant’

In anticipation of tonight’s game against Milwaukee, I covered the recent history between the Wiz and Bucks earlier…..now it’s time for some blogger Q&A. Jeramey from The Bratwurst Milwaukee Bucks Blog was kind enough to answer a couple questions about his team. Like to hear it? Well, here it go…..
1) Yi Jianlian is gone…..what kind of effect do you think he had on the Bucks’ bottom line? In this economy, it surely couldn’t hurt to have the support of a billion Chinese. Or….are you satisfied with Richard Jefferson and thought that the Bucks drafted Yi with the intention of trading him the whole time?
Not as big as you would think, judging from what I’ve heard. First off, if he made the team worse here (and he arguably did) he severely limited their revenue generating potential here stateside. Second, the huge numbers you saw reported for viewers in China have been highly debated. Finally, knock-off products are a huge problem in China, severely limiting the revenue generating potential for merchandise.
It may have helped Milwaukee appear attractive to Chinese investors, but a lot of the groundwork for those relations was laid by city officials before Yi was even a glimmer in Larry Harris’s eye.

The passing of Kevin Duckworth at only 44 years old should serve as yet another cautionary tale for the health of all Americans. Medical examiners have concluded that Duckworth died of “hypertrophic cardiomyopathy with congestive heart failure.” The initial report from The Oregonian indicated that Duckworth appeared to have gone into cardiac arrest, according to fire rescue officials on the scene.
We are all aware of the weigh problems Duckworth dealt with throughout his career and more so into his retirement. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy involves the thickening of the heart muscle, thought to be primarily caused by genetics, but could be affected by non-genetic factors. There is no definitive connection between Duckworth’s heart problems and being overweight, but an easy conclusion to make would be that the latter certainly did not help the former, especially since his high blood pressure played a role in his heart failure.
Memories of Duckworth have focused on his positive contributions, especially those of his days with the Portland Trailblazers, the team he was most associated with. True Hoop’s Henry Abbott and Wayne Thompson of Blazers.com will recall his performance in a Portland game 7 win over the San Antonio Spurs in the 2nd round of the 1990 NBA Playoffs. Current Blazers team president, Larry Miller, remembers Duckworth “as one of the warmest and biggest- hearted.” Duckworth was in Lincoln City, OR to host a free clinic for kids.
My memories will, of course, stem from Duckworth’s days as a Bullet. While the on-court recollections weren’t always fond, I do remember the big fella having a smile on his face, for the most part.
After sending notice of his death to a couple people, my friend Chris reminded me of the day we were on the court with Big Duck back in late ’93/early ’94 for a post-game clinic on the floor of the Capital Centre/USAir Arena.

We all know that Scott Skiles got fired on Christmas Eve….and sure he’s not happy with the pink slip, but why is he holding that ax? Ben Wallace better look out for the blow out.
I’m not sure if Michelle Rodriguez just looks plum crazy in her mug shot, or if she would be the hot, edgy chick with an ‘tude in Chained Heat 17.
The DC Pro Sports Report has an entry on Wizards and Capitals attendance figures. They are surprised that the Wizards are only averaging 3,300 more fans per game than the Caps. I’m not sure if this means that people are liking hockey more than I thought, or that the Wizards fans suck.
An initial glance of the headline for this post from The Big Lead made me think that Topanga went down on 36 Florida State football players, yes that Topanga. Glad I read it twice, she only got pulled over with a DUI…..and we’re still waiting for the mugshot.
From the last Wizards-Pacers game, the video of a drunk little kid (ok, that’s speculation) running around on the court during a stoppage in play, and trying to touch the net. Towards the end of the video, Jeff Foster of the Pacers trips the lil’ guy. Good stuff.

- Hmmm…maybe Scott Skiles doesn’t love Joakim Noah. Then again, I think Noah would know about teams playing together. How many NCAA championships did Skiles win at Michigan State, much less back-2-back? None.
But really, I liked Scott Skiles the player a lot, especially when he was a Bullet. They just don’t make ‘em hard-nosed like that cat anymore…Adam Morrison would be Skiles’ antithesis. And speaking of hard-nosed..the interesting things you can find on Wikipedia. Did you know that while at Michigan State, Skiles was arrested and charged with cocaine and marijuana possession? The cocaine charge ended up being dropped, but he was later arrested, and spent 15 days in jail, for drunk driving. I suppose partying with Scotty back in the day would be akin to partying with this character from Conan O’Brien. [Damn, I wish I had a video]
- Jamont Gordon is putting Mississippi State on the radar – And no other college coach has had it tougher than Rick Stansbury. My facts could be wrong, but I think Mississippi State is the only program in the country to have three committed players go to the NBA before setting foot on campus (prior to the recent rule change): Jonathan Bender, Travis Outlaw, and Monta Ellis. But he’ll get over it.
- Don’t be like LeBron, be better than him and start yelling at your co-workers. Pronto.
- Philadelphia Eagles Coach Andy Reid speaks out on recent family problems.
