Q1
7:14: Andray Blatche gets blocked by Mehmet Okur…..a very sad scene to witness. Okur barely jumped, if at all, and Andray took it to the hoop like a four-year old girl chasing after a puppy.
4th Minute: JaVale McGee has got a couple nice offensive boards, but doesn’t use his body/leverage to his advantage. He’s trying to be all arms and hops. So on one, he missed a forced hook and on the second, he got blocked byOkur (who the hell is this guy, Mutombo?).
In the first…..Utah’s passing looks good (6 assists on 9 made FGs = Swiss Cheese Wiz D)….but Deron Williams has four turnovers (two on the first two possessions of the game) to only one assist.

Tuff Juice is checkin’ his fresh.
Having a tight hammy, and thus leaving last Friday’s Magic game at half, wasn’t going to stop Caron Butler from donning a secret service outfit, diamond encrusted wrist bling, and celebrating his 29th birthday at one of his favorite spots, the Park at 14th.
From Wizards Outlet:
He said that he was feeling pretty good the last week after sitting out three games the previous week, but when he made a move to the basket against Orlando, the hamstring clinched up. He’s been getting treatment ever since then and it has yet to improve. Here’s to hoping it’s nothing worse than just the tightness it has been classified as.

Just like last Wednesday’s game against the NOLA Hornets, I attended Friday night’s game against the O-Town Magic and forgot to set my DVR to compose a game blog later. But twitter tweets provide a similar account and save me the time from having to watch a loss….again – suffered enough of that this season. So, here are the tweets from last night’s game with some guests.
BulletsForever: I wouldn’t hold it against the Magic if they tried to one-up the 3 point record they set against Sacramento. -Jake

Dennymayo: Apparently the wizards were called the zephyrs way back in the day, pre-bullets. Who would have thought, or cared? Friday, March 13, 2009 7:04 PM

The Washington Wizards are an eclectic bunch with a wide variety of nicknames.
Well, our friends to the Canadian north at Hoop Heads North have put together a list of lesser-known NBA nicknames, and I gladly supplied some of the well-known (at least in Wizards Nation circles), and some of the lesser-known ones that just haven’t caught on (apologies if I missed any):

The Wizards beat an inferior Timberwolves squad, 110-99, Minny’s 10th loss in a row, thanks to veteran swag and strong contributions from the mostly youthful bench.
The four oldest players available (Jamison – 32, Dixon – 30, Songaila – 30, and Butler – 28) combined to score 81 points, 73.6% of the total.
But that doesn’t take away from what Blatche, McGee, Crittenton, Young and McGuire contributed in the win. In fact, Young and McGee led the team in +/-, both finishing +11.
The Wizards bench outscored the Wolves bench 26-16 and also contributed 16 of the team’s 46 total rebounds.

Typical scene from modern day Oklahoma
where the dust bowl continues.

Started to watch the beginning of the Wizards-Thunder game last night…but fell asleep, bloggers need naps too. I’d intended on waking up at some point and watching from the start…..but then thought, am I really missing anything?
So, the game blog picks at the end of the 2nd quarter.

Why do they play “Whomp, There It Is!” when good things happen at OKC games? (well, when Russell Westbrook does good things) Bet that’s the only hip-hop song (wait, is that song considered hip-hop?) that’s “safe” for the white people in Oklahoma.
As soon as I turn the game on, you got 10-0 Thunder runs, Wizards matador defense, Russell Westbrook dunks…..36-35 OKC.

There’s a developing conundrum on how exactly JaVale McGee should be used in the Wizards offensive/defensive schemes.
As Wizards TV personalities Phil Chenier and Steve Buckhantz have commented on numerous occasions throughout the season, there has been a drastic increase in alley-oops from the Wizards, perhaps more than the past several seasons combined.
You have young JaVale McGee to thank. The kid’s ability to run like a gazelle on the break and sky above everyone else is an invaluable tool that must be used to the Wizards’ advantage.
But there’s the catch, using McGee in such a manner means that at times he’ll be susceptible to sneaking out on the break before the defensive rebound is secured. If you’ve got a guy on the court who’s 7’1″ in socks, you want him hitting the defensive boards hard, right?

Many have believed that 18-year old phenom, Ricky Rubio, would not enter the 2009 NBA draft because of a six million Euro buyout from his current contract with DKV Joventut of the Spanish ACB league.
However, recent reports, including one from Draft Express on February 22nd, indicate that via Rubio’s representatives, U.S. agent Dan Fegan, negotiations are under way to reduce Rubio’s buyout to three or four million Euros.
Rubio is very likely to be a top three pick in the ’09 draft which would be the most favorable conditions for a possible buyout. ESPN’s Chad Ford follows up with a Feb. 27th report that there are strong indications that Rubio will be available in the upcoming draft.
How does this benefit the Wizards?
Well, obviously, the potential lottery pick for a team currently tied with Oklahoma City for the second worst record in the NBA (two games behind the league worst Sacramento Kings) gets more valuable in what is considered a weak draft.

I watched most of the Wizards game before heading out for the night. They simply didn’t entice me to stay with their lack of energy, effort, and patience/ball movement on offense. So, watching the rest of the game on Sunday, I pick the game blog up here:
5:00 left in the 3rd, the Wizards are down 13 on the road….do they have what it takes?
Well, to start off, Songaila is scrapping, in the paint on the floor, in the midst of a fray of humanity, and comes away with the ball for an assist from his back to Caron Butler for a dunk. 72-61 Bucks.
4:16: Wiz get another turnover….Butler jets down the court, goes straight under the rim, puts Charlie Bell on his back and becomes a very easy target for a pass from Mike James. 73-63 Bucks.
