Wizards Game 35 at Chicago Bulls Recap: I'll call this the tipping point
| January 10, 2009 | 6:37 pm

Last night was the first time this season that I just watched the game, instead of trying to take notes/blog during. I can’t say whether it caused me to have a different perspective, but it led me to finally conclude: we are just a bunch of losers (oh, the “we” thing….no, I’m not on the Wizards, nor part of the franchise, but I am a fan, and “with” the team in good times and in bad).

You might be asking yourself what took me so long to come to said conclusion? Sure, the Wizards have been bad pretty much all year, but there have been signs of hope. And despite Mike Wise writing off this season as an inevitable mulligan four days ago (although technically not a “do-over”), some, perhaps myself included, thought that the Wizards could come together as a team, show some spry, accumulate some wins, and then look up and see themselves suddenly in a playoff chase.

Not so, not so at all. I’m not going to call out veterans like Caron Butler or Antawn Jamison for not trying. No, they’re out there, seemingly giving it their all. And I’m not going to call anyone else out for misplaced effort. Well, maybe Andray Blatche…I mean does the picture below look like a guy who is ready to play a basketball game?

Last night, it was the little things that you don’t think about, a bobble of the ball, a travel, that led me to succumb to the thought of writing the entire 2008-2009 season off. I twittered this, and even made the same comment on the Bullets Forever game thread, but I’ll reiterate: The Washington Wizards are simply stuck in a state of mental absence from the game of basketball.

Antonio Daniels' Doctor Puts Backiotomy On Hold
| December 9, 2008 | 2:06 am

Over the years, we’ve become accustomed to seeing Antonio Daniels put his body on the line in driving to the basket. And usually, he is able to draw a foul with his flailing, controlled recklessness. But against Ben Gordon and the Chicago Bulls, AD was getting no love from the refs, which led to the face below.

Antonio Daniels' Doctor Puts Backiotomy On Hold - Truth About It.netNo, Daniels isn’t smiling as he almost appears to be, that’s a look of pain….pain caused by Gordon throwing his shit in the other direction. See for yourself.

Some have cried foul, but it looks clean to me. AD hobbled around the court for a bit after this incident and then left the game early with a bruised tailbone.

Washington Wizards Game 18 Blog at Chicago Bulls: Wiz Backcourt Eaten Alive in Paltry Effort

JaVale McGee
starts off:

  • Blocking a Gooden hook shot on help side.
  • Blocking a Derrick Rose layup attempt and then Rose’s jump shot on a recovery.
  • We haven’t played a minute yet.

10:37: Deng blows by Butler, slashing to the basket in transition. Caron, in my opinion, exerts a minimal amount of effort. 4-3 Bulls.

9:33: McGee closes out fast and gets a 4th block on Gooden’s jumper.

Legal Sea Foods Question of The Night Subtly Indicative of Ed Tapscott's Imminent Demise
| December 7, 2008 | 7:23 pm

People are beginning to question the decision-making of new Washington Wizards coach, Ed Tapscott, leading some to wonder if he’ll even make it through the season.

For those not local to the DC area, and thus not frequent viewers of Washington Wizards games on Comcast, each game, Legal Sea Foods sponsors a “Question of the Night.”

I think last night’s LSF question speaks for itself.

Legal Sea Foods Question of The Night Subtlety Indicative of Ed Tapscott's Imminent Demise - Truth About It.netNow, Steve Buckhantz went on to clarify that the question didn’t necessarily mean hired and fired in the same season, and that’s why Bernie Bickerstaff, now an assistant for the Chicago Bulls, was eligible to be the answer. Nevertheless, not a good sign for Tapscott.

Washington Bullets Live Game Memories: Bernard King vs Michael Jordan
| September 15, 2008 | 8:56 pm
Nate Jones over at the fittingly named blog, Jones On The NBA, has started NBA Stadium Blog Day where NBA bloggers have united to share their favorite memories of stadium experiences. I’ve been to hundreds of Wizards/Bullets games, and could probably reminisce about memorable games I’ve attended all day….and considering the franchise history, there would many more unfavorable recollections than good. However, at this point, what’s done is done and all of them, pleasant and ugly, are fond in their own way.

It didn’t take long to recall my best memory, the first Bullets game I’d ever attended. The scene was the home opener at the Capital Centre in early November 1990, the second game of the year for both the Washington Bullets and the Chicago Bulls. I was just a 10-year old kid, ready to witness Michael Jordan live for the first time. Little did I know at the onset of that night, a guy named Bernard King would be the star of the show.

The Bulls were fresh off losing to the Detroit Pistons in seven games in the 1990 NBA Eastern Conference Finals, their 6th straight pre-NBA Finals playoff exit in the Michael Jordan era. The Bullets, well, they were fresh off a 31-51 season. My memory of a game which took place around 18 years ago is understandably fuzzy, so you must forgive me if I turned to some newspaper/internet archives for help. All I knew was that the way Bernard King was raining jumpers, ultimately to the tune of 44 points, he just had to be in the zone….and that was before I even knew the definition of ‘being in the zone.’

Wizards take the Bulls by the horns.

Wizards take the Bulls by the horns.
Well, that answers Ivan Carter’s question, Gilbert Arenas will sit out and rest the knee tonight against the Chicago Bulls, opting out of the back-to-back. Who knows what that means….I thought it was normal rest earlier this season, then all of a sudden, he’s having another surgery. Antawn Jamison, as most know, will also be dress-code suited on the bench.

The update is that Gilbert is out as a precaution.

Quarter One

11:41: Can of Tuff Juice from long distance to start.

>> Our very own Agent Zero now has a bond with Boston fans. He also defends the comments he made in Sports Illustrated in his new blog entry.

>> Wow….Chicago Bulls fans are even more upset with their team’s 0-3 start than the Wizards fans are. I guess it’s more surprising because most “experts” picked the Baby Bulls to do better than the Wiz. Not really sure why. But to be chanting Kobe Bryant’s name during games? That would never happen in DC…I hope.

>> Speaking of chanting names, Rocket’s fans are calling for more run for Stevie Franchise. Look, I know he’s a local DC guy, but I’ve never been a fan of Steve Francis. For one, I can’t stand it when privileged athletes whine about where they get selected in the draft, but to cry? On top of that, his ‘ball pounding a hole in the floor’ ways are not exactly conducive to a Rick Adelman offense.

>> Hey, if you’re going to play rough, you gotta protect ya boys.
